Rye Police: Suspicious Car Approached 12-Year-Old Girl

RYE, N.Y. - A 12-year-old girl was approached by a suspicious car in the vicinity of Brevoort Lane and Greenhaven Road in Rye Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The girl was walking home around 4 p.m. when she was approached by a bright blue compact car with a black and white "TAXI" sticker on the door and a yellow license plate, according to police. The driver was described as an older white man, balding with white hair and a crooked tooth. He spoke with a heavy accent, according to the report.

The girl told police the man stopped the car twice and asked her if she needed a ride. The girl fled toward her home and the vehicle left the scene, police said.

Rye schools received a warning about the incident. Anybody with information should contact the City of Rye Police Department at 914-967-1234.
