Christopher Salguero, 23, a former New York State Park police officer was sworn in as a Rye police officer on Monday.

Rye Police Commissioner Michael C. Corcoran, Jr. said Salguero took his oath during a ceremony at City Hall with his family in attendance.

Salguero has an associate’s degree from Westchester Community College and has the State University of New York at Albany.

Salguero will be assigned to the Rye Police Department’s field training program for the next six weeks to familiarize him with the community and departmental procedures under the guidance of experienced officers.

While announcing the appointment, Corcoran said, “This is a great day for the City of Rye and the Rye Police Department. This was a very fortunate hire. Normally, it can take almost a year to hire and train a police officer before they are patrol ready. Police Officer Salguero is already experienced, well- trained and a consummate professional."

Corcoran added: "I am confident that his skill set will serve the department and community very well."
