Charged with first-degree possession of a forged instrument, a felony, were Catherine Arichabala, 23, and Nicole Munoz, 20, both of Elmhurst, Queens. A third suspect charged is 17 years old.
The three suspects were additionally charged with misdemeanor counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny.
Lt. Scott Craig of the Rye Police Department said police in Port Chester and Rye Brook are investigating fraudulent purchases allegedly made by the trio in those neighboring communities.
Police are encouraging shop owners to file individual reports to help build a broader criminal case against the women and girl or anyone else suspected in making counterfeit Benjamin Franklins.
The arrests were made at 4:30 p.m. Saturday on Purchase Street after police were told to look for a red Nissan Altima involved in the alleged crimes. During a traffic stop involving a red Nissan, Rye police identified a suspect matching the description of someone who had been making purchases with counterfeit $100 bills.
All three defendants were sent to Westchester County Jail.
