RYE BROOK, N.Y. -- Rye Brook police are reminding residents to lock their cars after a number of recent larcenies from vehicles.
"These crimes typically involve the removal of small but valuable items -- purses, wallets, iPods, iPads, laptop computers, other small electronics such as GPS units -- from vehicles parked at night in residential driveways or in the street," Rye Brook police said in a statement. Many times, the cars have been left unlocked.
You should never leave valuables in your car, as it only takes a thief a minute to grab them, police say.
"We recommend that you always lock your car, especially if it contains an automatic garage door opener that can provide access to your house."
If you hear or observe any suspicious behavior, you should contact the police by calling 911.
