A classic example of the danger could be seen Wednesday during the height of the storm when several power lines caught fire on Weed Street, putting on a show for residents until firefighters could arrive to douse the flames.

As of 1 p.m., 2,318 residents remained without power according to Eversource.

In a meeting with local media, First Selectman Kevin Moynihan said that he expected some residents wouldn’t have power back until Tuesday.

He also reported that Public Works employees would work throughout Thursday and Friday to remove fallen trees and that he was working with local churches and other venues to set-up warming centers for residents without power.

The New Canaan Police Department will provide an update on the situation at 2 p.m.
