Port Chester Woman Falsely Reports Her Car Was Stolen, Police Say

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- A 34-year-old Port Chester woman who said her vehicle was stolen made up the story and is now under arrest, according to state police.

Tanya L. Torello has been charged with making a false written statement, a misdemeanor, after state police from the Hawthorne barracks said she provided them with a written statement reporting that her vehicle had been stolen by an unknown person. An investigation into the matter determined that her vehicle had not been stolen, police said.

Torello was was ordered to return to the Village of Port Chester Court on Jan. 19.
