PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – A Mount Vernon man was charged with possession of heroin after a narcotics bust in Port Chester, police said.

Officers received a complaint at about 8 p.m. Tuesday that someone was selling drugs in the area of 20 Bush Ave., according to Lt. Jim Ladeairous, spokesman for the Port Chester Police Department.

Officers in the area drove by in a detective car, but the suspect saw the vehicle and ran. “Everyone knows what the detective cars look like,” Ladeairous said of the man’s reaction.

Police left but returned to the area soon after. Once again, the suspect ran away. Trying a different tactic, officers came through the back of a house and approached the suspect, who ran into the house at 20 Bush Ave. Police chased the man and found him in the bathroom.

When officers questioned him and checked his identification, they learned of a warrant out of New York City for his arrest. Searching the man, officers found 22 envelopes containing heroin, Ladeairous said.

Anthony Morgan, 36, of 236 S. Fifth Ave., Mount Vernon, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony.
