PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - A Port Chester woman was charged with endangering a child after her 5-year-old daughter was found wandering on Westchester Avenue on Monday afternoon.
The child was at a friend's home on Fairview Avenue with her mother when she left the house without her mother realizing it, said Lt. James Ladeairous. The child was walking on Westchester Avenue when a man saw her. Realizing something was wrong, he approached the girl and tried to find out where she had come from before calling police, Ladeairous said.
An officer drove the girl around until she recognized her house, police said. The girl's sister was home, and police contacted their 38-year-old mother, police said.
The mother was intoxicated, and Child Protective Services was called, Ladeairous said. The mother was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and released on a promise to appear in court March 15.
