Port Chester Man Pleads Guilty In Fatal Stabbing

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – A Port Chester man pleaded guilty in connection with a fatal stabbing of a 23-year-old man in February, Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced Tuesday.  

Julio Cortez, 54, of 66 Poningo St., was charged with one count of manslaughter in the first degree when he was arrested on Feb. 15. He faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in state prison. He is due for sentencing on Nov. 27

On Feb. 7 around 3:55 a.m., Port Cheser Police discovered the body of Carlos Guirachocha, of Port Chester, lying face down on the steps of the entrance of 131 Poningo St., according to DiFiore. Guirachocha had blood and a stab wound in the area of his heart. Emergency medical personnel were contacted and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

During investigations, police found a large kitchen knife nearby and recovered surveillance video from both 125 and 131 Poningo St. Detectives also discovered two men had argued prior to the stabbing.  

Assistant District Attorney Kristina Dushaj of the Major Case Bureau prosecuted the case.
