Ever Maldonado, 29, was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree rape, a Class B felony. He was arraigned at the Port Chester Village Court Friday morning and remanded to Westchester County Jail, where he is being held without bail. He is due back in court on April 11.

The girl, 13, of Bridgeport, Conn. told her pastor that Maldonado began touching her in 2006 when she was 6 years old and living with Maldonado in Port Chester, according to Police Lt. James Ladeairous. By the time she was 7 years old, he began having intercourse with her, Ladeairous said.

The abuse continued until the girl was 11 years old, when she and her mother moved to Bridgeport, Ladeairous said. She never told anyone about it until she mentioned it to her pastor this week, police said. The pastor contacted the authorities, who got in touch with Port Chester police, according to Ladeairous.

Port Chester detectives met with child services and the district attorney. A warrant was issued for Maldonado's arrest and he was taken into custody at his home Thursday.
