PORT CHESTER, N.Y. A Port Chester man who was involved in a hit-and-run with another vehicle Saturday night, evaded police during a chase before hitting into an officers car, police said.
Port Chester police received a report of a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident from a Port Chester Department of Public Works employee who saw the crash and followed a white van that was involved drive away around 6 p.m. on Saturday, according to Lt. Jim Ladeairous, spokesman for the Port Chester Police Department.
Police caught up to the van, but the driver did not pull over right away. On the corner of Highland Avenue and Locust Street, the van finally pulled over, but took off as soon as the officer was getting out of his car.
The officer chased the van and blocked it with his own car. The van stopped only when the driver then smashed into the side of the police car. The officer got out of his car and ran toward the driver, who then tried to punch the officer in the face. Other police officers were able to subdue the driver who had suffered head injuries from the original accident and was taken to White Plains Hospital for treatment.
Fabian Duchaitang-Albarracin, 28, of 266 Willet Ave., Port Chester, was arrested on charges of aggravated unlicensed operation, a felony, because he did not have a license and his driving privileges had been suspended on a driving while ability impaired charge in 2009. He was additionally charged with resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, and issued several traffic tickets.
The next day around the same time, another man was arrested on a driving while intoxicated charge following a car accident in which he too attempted to flee the scene, police said. A female driving a Volkswagen Jetta said she had stopped at a stop sign and was rear-ended by a silver SUV that had been tailgating her on King Street. The driver of the SUV got out of his car after the accident and began banging on the womans car door.
She saw him, but never opened her window because she was scared, said Ladeairous. The SUV driver left, but the woman had his plate number. The SUV was found on Locust Avenue and the man was brought into the station. The woman positively identified him as the one driving the car. Otilio Rivera-Ramirez, 37, of 571 Locust Ave., in Port Chester was then arrested on misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, and property damage.
