Trent James Plateroti, 21, of 44 Rockland Ave., Port Chester, N.Y., was charged with second-degree burglary. His bond was set at $5,000.
The incident began when a 25-year-old Stamford man and Plateroti met Saturday night in a Port Chester bar, where the two had an altercation, police said. The Stamford man confronted Plateroti about an alleged debt Plateroti owed from a year ago, police said.
Later at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, the Stamford man heard noises from the third floor at his residence at 120 Stamford Ave., police said. Alarmed, he grabbed a knife, alerted a neighbor and went up to the third floor to investigate, police said.
He saw Plateroti and a second individual and was able to grab and hold Plateroti until officers came, police said. The second suspect was able to flee the building, police said.
When officers arrived they questioned Plateroti, who told police he broke into the building to steal the 25-year-old's marijuana. Officers searched but did not find any marijuana in the residence, Sgt. Jennifer Lynch said.
