On Thursday,  Aug. 3, New Canaan police were contacted by the staff at a residential treatment facility in town.

The staff there said the suspect, Sean P. Crowther of New Haven, did not threaten a specific person at the treatment facility, but "threatened to harm 'someone' at the facility by shooting them with a gun," police said.

During the investigation, New Canaan police were able to locate Crowther near his New Haven home, and he was taken into custody by New Haven police, said police.

Officers from New Canaan traveled to New Haven and took Crowther into custody Friday at 9:30 p.m. and arrested him, police said.

He was charged with second-degree threatening and held on $75,000 bond for a Aug. 15 court date. At 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Crowther posted bond and was released.
