Shortly after 12:15 p.m., members of the Yonkers Police Emergency Service Unit and 2nd Precinct were dispatched to Central Park Avenue north, near the Midland Avenue overpass, where there was a report of injuries, Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said on Thursday.

Politopoulos said that the initial investigation determined that the tubing connecting up to a trailed cement pumper failed, striking several workers with tubing and fragments, spraying them with liquid concrete as they were working on refacing the bridge.

Four construction workers were transported to a local trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries. Politopoulos said that the area was cordoned off, though the incident does not appear criminal in nature. OSHA has been notified and is responding to the scene. Traffic is open on Central Park Avenue, but motorists may encounter some delays.
