Dozens Of Families Evacuated Following Westchester Apartment Fire

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. - Dozens of families were forced to evacuate a Mount Vernon apartment building on Wednesday following an early morning fire.

Shortly before 7 a.m. on Wednesday, fire crews were dispatched to a Gramatan Avenue apartment building, where there were reports of a fire that forced the evacuation of 30 families, officials from the American Red Cross said.

The fire was quickly knocked down and no injuries were reported. Five displaced families are being assisted by the Red Cross to find temporary housing following the blaze, the rest of the tenants have been permitted to return to the building.
