William McArthur 'Bill' Dutra, Lifelong Port Chester Resident, 72

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- William McArthur (Bill) Dutra, a lifelong resident of Port Chester, died on Monday. He was 72.

He was born Aug. 4, 1942 to the late Manuel and Henrietta Cunningham Dutra. He was raised and educated in Port Chester, graduating from Port Chester High School in 1960.

After high school, Dutra served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Wadleigh. He later graduated from Westchester Community College and Bridgeport University.

Dutra was a detective for the Port Chester Police Department and retired in 1987. He was a member of the Port Chester Yacht Club since 1962. He was the current commodore, a position he had held for many years. He was also a member of the Blue Knights CT, VII Motorcycle Club.

Dutra is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandra Leo Dutra of Port Chester, daughter Denice Dutra Laveris and husband Paul of Stamford, Conn., sons William M. Dutra, Jr. and wife Anna of Mahopac, Christopher F. Dutra and wife Lisa of Rye Brook, Sean P. Dutra and wife Lori of Rye Brook, grandchildren Nico and Jake Laveris, Khloe and Jesse Dutra,Christopher and Trevor Dutra, Makayla and Carly Dutra, brother James Dutra and wife Marie of Sugar Loaf, N.Y. and sister Cissie Powell and husband Lee of New Smyrna, Fla,. and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Manuel Dutra Jr. and granddaughter Gabriella Laveris.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6 at Craft Memorial Home Inc., 40 Leicester St. in Port Chester. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 360 Westchester Ave. Port Chester. Interment is private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Dutra may be to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
