Saverio 'Sam' Terenzi, 60, Port Chester

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Port Chester Village Trustee Saver "Sam " Terenzi, 60, a lifelong resident of Port Chester, died Tuesday, Jan. 5.

He was born on Oct. 28, 1955, to Alfred and  Mary Terenzi. 

Terenzi had a long and proud career of public service -- in the village of Port Chester and beyond. 

He was first elected to the Port Chester Board of Trustees in 1988 and served for six years until 1994. He was then again twice elected as a Village Trustee in 2010 and 2013. During his most recent tenure as trustee, he served as deputy mayor (2013-2014) and has been chairman of the Village Finance Committee. 

Previously, Terenzi also volunteered for many years on several Village Boards and Commissions, including the Zoning Board of Appeals (chairman), Village Planning Commission (chairman), and on the Village Recreation Commission. 

Additionally, Terenzi also held several appointed public positions for the Town of Rye dating back to 1989 when he was first appointed town budget officer. He was then appointed as town comptroller in 1990 - 1992, and has served on and off in different positions for the Town since then. Most recently, Terenzi has been providing professional accounting services to the Town of Rye. 

He was a licensed certified public accountant with a private accounting practice in Port Chester for many years.

He was predeceased by his wife, TilleTerenzi.

Terenzi is survived by his children, Samantha (Dante) Mercadante and Jake Terenzi; step-children Maria (Marc) DeVico; Patrick Bellantoni, and Joseph Bellantoni; grandchildren, Nicole and Danielle DeVico; sister JoAnn (Lewis) Leon-Reed; brother Joseph (Rose) Terenzi. 

Visiting hours will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Jan. 8 at Juniper Faring Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Corpus Christi Church, Port Chester. Entombment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Rye Brook.
