Port Chester Fire Capt. Charles Melillo Dies At 27

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – Charles “Chucky” William Melillo, a lifelong Port Chester resident, died Oct. 21. He was 27. 

Born Feb. 4, 1985, in Port Chester, he was the son of Charles Melillo Jr. and Shari Groglio Melillo. He was a graduate of Port Chester High School and worked as an emergency medical technician for Empress Emergency Medical Services in Yonkers and Harrison Emergency Medical Services. 

He was a member of Harry Howard Hook and Ladder Fire Co. 1 of the Port Chester Fire Department since 2003 and was currently serving as captain. He started his fire career as a member of Explorers Post 700. 

Melillo was captain of the Westchester Vengeance semi-pro football team. He was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Church in Port Chester. 

He is survived by his parents, Shari Melillo, of Port Chester, and Charles (Annie) Melillo, of Stamford, Conn.; a brother, Nick Melillo, of Port Chester; his maternal grandmother, Emily Groglio, of Rye Brook; his paternal grandmother, Mildred Melillo, of Port Chester; and three uncles. He was predeceased by his grandfathers, William “Poppy Bert” Groglio and Charles “Poppy Chuck” Melillo.

Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Craft Memorial Home in Port Chester. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Rosary Church in Port Chester. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Rye Brook.
