PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - Mildred Jean O'Brien Butler of Port Chester died June 19. She was 87.
O’Brien was born Aug. 2, 1925, in Bristol to Mildred Carlsen and Joseph Butler.
She was a lieutenant commander in the Naval Reserve and graduated from St. Joseph College in West Hartford and received a master's degree in nursing from Yale University. She was an associate director of nursing at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City for 15 years. She was director of the Hospice in Branford, the Kaiser Foundation in California, Ed Rosenthal Associates and Beth Abraham Hospital in New York.
O’Brien is survived by her sister, Ruth Butler Carroll; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and her many friends at the Mews. She was predeceased by her parents; and niece Deborah Carroll Cawley of West Hartford.
Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 21 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 21 at Our Lady of Mercy Church 260 Westchester Ave. Port Chester. Interment to follow at Saint Joseph's Cemetery Plainville, Conn.
