GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - Mieczyslaw Babula, a resident of Garden City, and formerly of Port Chester, died Dec. 5. He was 78.

Babula was born Sept. 28, 1936, in Poland, to Jozef and Maria Wiatr Babula. He immigrated to the United States in 1975 and was a painter for the Westchester Country Club in Rye. He was a parishioner of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Port Chester and a member of the Young Men's Society of the Polish United Club.

Babula is survived by his wife, Zofia Wos Babula; son, Sylwester Babula; daughter, Ursula Babula Kurczyk; two granddaughters; and brother, Marian Babula. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Frank Babula; and sister, Wladzia Babula.

Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc. A Funeral Mass and burial will take place in Gawluszowice, Poland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 229 Willett Ave., Port Chester.
