Josephine Davis Schnautz, 93, Of Port Chester, Illustrator, Cox Kitchens

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - Josephine "Jody" Davis Schnautz, a lifelong resident of Port Chester, died Aug. 24. She was 93.

Schnautz was born Feb. 1, 1921, to Raymond and Marie Curtis Davis. She was raised and educated in Port Chester graduating from Port Chester High School in 1938 and then attended Syracuse University, College of Fine Arts. She was the first woman draftsperson hired by New York Central Railroad during World War II. She worked in the engineering department for the Steam Locomotive Division. She was an illustrator for Cox Kitchens in Port Chester. She was a member of the Saint Peter's Episcopal Church, the Rye Women's Club, the Coveleigh Club Rye, the Port Chester Council for the Arts and a volunteer in the community.

Schnautz is survived by her children, Robert W. Schnautz, III (Candace) of Golden, Colo., Joanne Davis Schnautz of Port Chester and Katherine Schnautz Tarbi (Henry) of Stow, Mass.; four grandchildren; sister, Anne Savio of Cary, N.C.; and three nieces. She was predeceased by her parents; and husband, Robert W. Schnautz, Jr.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29 at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery Rye.
