Janis McCabe, 67, Of Port Chester, Longtime March Of Dimes Administrator

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Janis M (Gildea) McCabe, 67, of Port Chester and formerly of Natick Mass., died unexpectedly Wednesday, Aug. 12 at Greenwich Hospital in Greenwich Conn.

Born in Cambridge and a longtime resident of Natick, she was the daughter of the late John F and Marie F (Kelley) Gildea.

McCabe was an administrator for the March of Dimes Association for many years, where she worked tirelessly for those less fortunate. She attended the College of New Rochelle and the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston.

She was an avid reader, loved attending Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins and Celtics sporting events in her younger days with her family and continued to support them throughout her life.

McCabe enjoyed doing The New York Times crossword puzzles, spending holidays with family and friends and keeping in touch on social media.

She is survived by her siblings, Karen Gildea, of Harpers Ferry, W. Va., Kathleen Gildea Simmonds, of Winston-Salem, N.C., Gary Gildea and his wife Jennifer Smith Gildea, of Barrington, R.I., Joanne Gildea of Natick, Mass., brother-in-law Donald Lebel, of Westbrook, Maine, and 11 nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Nancy Gildea Lebel.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Linus Church, 119 Hartford St., Natick.

Visiting hours are from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday in the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St., Natick Common.
