Harold Wood, 96, Longtime Westchester Resident, Supreme Court Justice

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Harold L. Wood, a longtime resident of the Westchester area, died in Florida on Thursday, April 14. He was 96.

Wood was born in Bridgeport, Conn., to Harriet Wood Bannister and James Wood. He graduated from Ossining High School and Lincoln University in Pennsylvania,

He served as a sergeant in the Army Air Corps at Tuskegee in Ala., and graduated from Cornell Law School and NYU.

Wood was president of the NAACP and went on to be elected to the Westchester County Board of Supervisors, the Mount Vernon City Council, served as a Westchester supervisor and as a judge for the Westchester Family Court, County Court and state Supreme Court.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his wife. Thelma. He is survived by three children, Gregory and his wife LaVerne, Jill and Dean Christopher Wood; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be Monday, April 18, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Dorsey Funeral Home in Ossining.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 19, at 11 a.m. at the Antioch Baptist Church, 3 Church St., Bedford Hills.

Interment will follow at Dale Cemetery in Ossining
