PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – George J. Betz Jr., a lifelong resident of Port Chester, died Sunday, May 29. He was 88.
He was born April 15, 1928, in Port Chester, to the late George J. Betz Sr. and Hazle C. Betz. He was raised and educated in Port Chester and graduated from the Port Chester High School in 1945. He was a seaman in the Merchant Marine from 1945-55. He served two years in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a specialist third class AUS in June 1957.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mary; his daughter, Christine Banuls (David) of Pine Bush; and his son, John (Kathleen O'Connor) of Ayer, Mass.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 1, from 6-8 p.m. at Craft Memorial Home Inc., 40 Leicester St., Port Chester. The funeral service will be held Thursday, June 2, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment is private.
