Funeral Services Set For Harrison Town Justice, Former Councilman

HARRISON, N.Y. – Joseph Cannella, a former Harrison councilman and deputy mayor and current town/village justice, died Thursday, Dec. 22. He was 66.

Mayor Ron Belmont, who posted the news on the local government’s website, called Cannella “a man of conviction who selflessly dedicated his time to the residents of our town.”

“He will be missed by many,” the mayor added.

Funeral services were set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at St. Gregory the Great R.C. Church, 215 Halstead Ave., Harrison.

Cannella was a graduate of St. John’s University where he received his B.A., M.B.A. and J.D. degrees. He also graduated from Georgetown University with an M.L.T.

He was a partner and member of the executive committee in the law firm of Eaton & Van Winkle LLP.

Cannella served on and was chairman of the Harrison Planning Board from 1991 to 1999. He also was Harrison's deputy mayor in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2013 and was a member of the Town Board.

He was elected town justice just this year.

Cannella was a coach with the community’s Little League, Babe Ruth Leagues and Youth Soccer Program.

He was the recipient of numerous awards including the Harrison Little League's Volunteer of the Year and The Babe Ruth's Service Award.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Calabrese); children Jonathan, Kimberly and Ashley; a sister, Carmela Marachi (Jean); and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was Monday, Dec. 26, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. at the Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home, 767 East Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck.

Burial will take place at Greenwood Union Cemetery, North Street, Rye.
