Frank McDowell, 82, Former Port Chester Volunteer

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – Frank H. McDowell of Greenwich, Conn., formerly of Port Chester, died Sept. 10. He was 82. 

McDowell was a member of the Port Chester Planning and Zoning Commission and Head Start board. 

Born July 30, 1930, he was the son of Frank McDowell Sr. and Mary Gillespie. Raised in Hawthorne, he married Eileen Bernardo on June 6, 1954. He served in the Air Force in Europe and was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

McDowell graduated from Iona College and worked for Kraft-General Foods for 31 years. After retiring, he worked at Griff Harris Golf Course for 15 years. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and was a lector at Our Lady of Mercy Church.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen; two daughters, Pam (Jim) Kelly, of Harrison, and Judy (Rick) Massi, of Greenwich; five grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard McDowell. 

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Craft Memorial Home in Port Chester. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Port Chester. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Rye Brook.
