Emily 'Lee' Scherer, 95, Port Chester Realtor

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – Emily "Lee" Scherer, a lifelong resident of Port Chester, died Sunday, June 17. She was 95.

Scherer was born Feb. 22, 1917, in Port Chester to Joseph and Anna Halk Schepper. She was married to Benjamin M. Scherer for 61 years. They traveled together to many countries, including Russia, China and Portugal.

She enjoyed a successful career in retail and worked at Lord & Taylor on Fifth Avenue in New York as a junior executive and department manager. Scherer later worked in Greenwich, Conn., and Rye, receiving her real estate license at the age of 67. She worked as a sales agent for Shirley Wolf Realty until her retirement.

Scherer is survived by a sister, Adele S. Buzzeo, of Port Chester; two nephews and a niece. She was predeceased by a nephew, Richard G. Buzzeo.

A Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Port Chester. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Rye Brook. There is no visitation. Craft Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
