Carmela Ambrogio, 83, Port Chester Seamstress

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – Carmela Ambrogio of Port Chester died Nov. 12. She was 83.

Born July 21, 1929, in Pozzo di Cotto, Sicily, Italy, she was the daughter of Teresa Lanza and Felippo Cutroni. She moved to the U.S. from Canada in May 1957.

A seamstress, Ambrogio worked at Kaychester Ladies Garment Co. for more than 20 years. She enjoyed preparing extravagant meals and sewing in her free time.

Ambrogio is survived by her husband of 55 years, Carmelo Ambrogio, of Port Chester; a daughter, Teresa (Mike) Zohdy, of Greenwich, Conn.; two brothers-in-law, Joseph (Nancy) Ambrogio and Rocco Lagana; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Antonio Cutroni; a sister, Anna Cutroni; and a sister-in-law, Mary Lagana.

Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Castiglione Funeral Home in Greenwich. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Roch’s Church in Greenwich. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at St. Mary Cemetery in Greenwich.
