Bruno V. Gioffre, 74, Of Port Chester, Minor League Baseball Player, Coach

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - Bruno V. Gioffre of Port Chester April 22. He was 74.

Gioffre was born in Port Chester Oct. 15, 1938, to Joseph and Rose Gioffre. He graduated from Saint Bonaventure University with a bachelor’s degree in business and played four years of varsity baseball.

After college he went on to play for several minor league and semi-pro baseball teams, such as the Rochester Red Wings, Buffalo Bisons and Port Chester Stars. He coached several baseball teams ranging from Little League all the way to semi-pro. He worked as a high-level executive in the liquor industry for several import companies from the 1960s until his retirement in 2006.

Gioffre is survived by his sons, Steven of Tampa, Fla., and Bruno, Jr. of West Harrison; a granddaughter; a grandson; brother, Fred Gioffre; and sister, Connie Thalheimer. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph; daughter, Andrea; and son, Joseph.

Calling hours will be from 4  to 8 p.m. Thursday. April 25 at Gunipero-Farenga Funeral Home, 353 Westchester Ave., Port Chester. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, April 26 at Our Lady of Mercy - Rectory 260 Westchester Ave., Port Chester.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bruno V. Gioffre's name to his nephew's John Gioffre Memorial, 301 Cannon Road, Wilton, CT 06897, which does many great things for young athletes in Port Chester, New York.
