RYE BROOK, N.Y. - Angelo R. Muto of Rye Brook died Tuesday, Dec. 2. He was 88.
Muto was born Oct. 18, 1926, in Butler, Pa., to Samuel and Florence Barone Muto. He grew up in Pennsylvania and after graduation from high school he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Philippines during World War II. At the age of 10, he began taking accordion lessons, which became his lifelong career and continued until the time of his death. In 1947, he moved to Ozone Park to study music in New York City where he became an accordionist/musical entertainer, and lived for many years there. He opened his own accordion school, The Modern Accordion Center, in Ozone Park. For the past 14 years he lived in Rye Brook.
He was a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Greenwich and previously a longtime member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Ozone, Park. He was a member of various community associations in Ozone Park, and more recently in Rye Brook, which include the Port Chester Kiwanis, and the local VFW, as well as others.
Muto is survived by his wife, Norma DiGiacomo; children, Gary (Caren) Muto of Greenwich, Conn. Maria (Jack) Wurpel of Larchmont; sisters, Louise (John) Olenic, Josephine Gall; and Frances (William) Draper; brother, Samuel, all of Butler, Pa.; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Betty Muto; brother, Robert Muto; son, Robert; and brother-in-law, Richard Gall.
Calling hours are Friday, Dec. 5 from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Leo F. Gallagher Funeral Home, 31 Arch St., Greenwich, Conn. A Mass and celebration of his life will take place at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Ozone Park, N.Y. Interment at St. John's Cemetery, Middle Village.
