PORT CHESTER/RYE, N.Y. – With power outages spread throughout Rye, Rye Brook and Port Chester, there are still some WiFi hotspots and open eateries available for residents while they wait for electricity and Internet service to return.
The Port Chester-Rye Brook Public Library is closed because of a power outage, but Rye Free Reading Room at 1061 Purchase St. was packed with residents charging phones, tablets and computers and trying to use WiFi.
While most gas stations in Rye and Rye Brook remain open, nearly all of the gas stations, the Port Chester Coach Diner, Dunkin Donuts and auto service locations on Boston Post Road are closed.
Several restaurants, including Ruby’s Oyster Bar and Le Pain Quotidien, are open on Purchase Street in Rye. Starbucks and Cosi are also open and offer WiFi. The majority of shops, gas stations, and restaurants in the downtown and waterfront area of Port Chester are closed because of power outages, but Stop & Shop remains open.
At Rye Ridge Plaza in Rye Brook, most shops are now open, including Rye Ridge Deli, Dagostino’s, Starbucks and Chipotle. Down the road, Westchester Burger Company and CVS are open as well.
The offices of the Village of Port Chester are open. The Rye YMCA is open Wednesday, but all youth classes are canceled.
Rye Recreation is closed and all programs have been canceled until further notice.
Whitby Castle on Boston Post Road in Rye is open for business and fully operational.
Be aware that phone and Internet use at all of these locations may be limited or slow due to the number of people trying to use the services.
