What's Happening In Port Chester This Weekend

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. — An R&B summer concert, the premiere of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and a kitten adoption fair are some of the events planned for this weekend in Port Chester.

Friday, July 20

Mojo Monde at Lyon Park: 7:30 p.m.-9 p.m. The R&B group Mojo Monde will play at Lyon Park on King Street in Port Chester as part of the Port Chester Recreation Department’s 2012 Summer Concert Series. Admission is free. For more information, call the Recreation Department at 914-939-2354.

Milt Gerver Orchestra: 7:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m. The band will play the music of 1930s and 1940s bandleaders such as Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey, accompanied by professional vocalists. A fireworks display over the Long Island Sound begins at 9:15 p.m. Admission is free. Parking is $5 on Fridays and $1 for senior citizens with a Westchester County Parks Pass. “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”: 7:30 p.m. The Youth/Teen Theatre production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” will take place July 20 and 21. The show is directed by Kelly Budde with musical direction by Cindy Moore. Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the music and Tim Rice wrote the lyrics. The show tells the Old Testament story of Joseph, the favorite son of Jacob, who finds himself blessed with prophetic dreams. Sold into slavery by his jealous brothers, he is taken to Egypt, where he endures a series of adventures that challenge his spirit and humanity. Eventually his suffering brothers find their way to Egypt groveling at the feet of a stranger, who turns out to be their grown brother Joseph. In the end, he shows them compassion and they reconcile. Tickets are $12, or $10 for seniors 65 and older and children 12 and under. Performances are at the Dunn Performing Arts Center at Rye Country Day School, 1 Cedar St., Rye.

Saturday, July 21

Rye Brook Farmers Market: 10 a.m. Featuring local farmers. Every second and fourth Saturday of the month through October at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 761 King St., Rye Brook. Admission is free.

Cat/Kitten Adoption at Petco: 12:30 to 5 p.m. Petco at Waterfront Plaza in Port Chester is hosting an adoption event with kittens and young adult cats. All are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, and tested negative for FIV/FeLV.
