The crash occurred at 5:20 p.m., when 42-year-old motorcyclist Matthew Rosenzweig from the Fleetwood section of Mount Vernon smashed into a concrete barrier on westbound Grand Central Parkway, the NYPD said.

During the crash, police said a 14-year-old girl standing along the roadway was hit by the cycle and suffered injuries to her left foot and back.

When police arrived on scene, they found Rosenzweig with severe head trauma, lying on the roadway. EMS responded to the location and transported Rosenzweig to New York Presbyterian Hospital of Queens, where he was pronounced deceased, police said.

EMS also transported the female pedestrian to Elmhurst Hospital, in stable condition.

Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad determined that the motorcycle was exiting the Grand Central Parkway and failed to properly navigate the curved exit ramp. The motorcycle continued straight onto the left shoulder and began to slide on the grass, before striking the female pedestrian that was standing on the shoulder.

Rosenzweig was ejected off the motorcycle into a concrete wall and the motorcycle continued to slide and came to rest on top of its operator. The investigation remains ongoing.
