The Village of Rye Brook approved an $2.2 million inter-municipal agreement with the City of Rye to construct a sluice gate at the Bowman Avenue Dam, which is owned by the City of Rye, to help reduce flooding.
The agreement came on the heels of Hurricane Irene, which caused flooding in both the Rye and Rye Brook area. Half of the funding is being provided through a county grant, another $400,000 through a state grant and the remainder provided by Rye Brook and Rye in the amounts of $137,000 and $547,000, respectively.
The project is currently sitting before the Rye Brook Planning Board and is still awaiting approval by the Rye Brook Board of Trustees, which is expected sometime in January.
Woman Dies in I-95 Crash in Port Chester
Former Larchmont resident Adele Mancuso was killed driving on I-95 in Port Chester when the two rear tires of a tractor-trailer came off and crashed into her vehicle in late August. Mancuso's mother, Constance Casalina, was in the passenger seat and received minor injuries.
Police said the driver of the tractor-trailer was exiting off I-95 onto I-287 when the tires came off and did not stop, but was later located Tuesday evening in New Jersey. The truck driver, whose name was not released, wasn't charged with any wrongdoing.
