Summer Shakespeare Play Coming To Port Chester

Ethan Levine-Weinberg looks up to screen actors like Al Pacino and Dustin Hoffman, but he still has a love for the stage.

"I played the lead in our second grade production of 'Peter Pan,'" said Levine-Weinberg. "After that I was hooked."

Levine-Weinberg,19, majors in theater at Northwestern University and is home for the summer in Hartsdale. Port Chester's community theater company Lawn Chair Theatre has provided him an opportunity to hone his acting skills over the summer.

The company held auditions for its upcoming production of Shakespeare's "As You Like It" on Tuesday and Wednesday, and Levine-Weinberg said he made sure to be there.

"I worked with the director [Tal Aviezer] before," said Levine-Weinberg. "He's brilliant."

The show opens August 5 at Rye Town Park and will run for a total of six performances over two weekends.

This will be Lawn Chair Theatre's sixth annual production, which is funded by the Port Chester Center for the Arts and the Village's recreation department.

The production's co-producer Peter Green has been with the company from the beginning and has directed and acted as well. He has seen it grow from a youth-oriented group to people like Levine-Weinberg, who continue to come back after graduating high school and older adults as well.

"I believe in the power of community theater to bring people together," said Green. "It transforms lives."
