PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Paul Tyson Jr. never forgets when it's time to set the clocks forward. This week, he's resetting hundreds of watches and replacing batteries -- in watches and clocks -- at Tyson & Co. Jewelers.
Paul's sister, Debbie Tyson, and her son, Shawn, also are tasked with adjusting dozens of clocks in the store as time moves forward by one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8 for daylight-saving time. It's all part of a day's work at the jewelry store first opened by their parents, Gwen and Paul Tyson Sr., in another part of the village in 1976.
"With the time change, we get a lot of battery replacements,'' Debbie Tyson said.
"I'm always doing time,'' Paul chimed. "I change about 45 watches per day."
Tyson & Co., at 505 Boston Post Road in Kohl's Shopping Center the past 13 years, also sells musical clocks for $300 to $560 each. The clocks play six traditional songs and six Christmas songs. Other tunes can be ordered by such artists as Elton John, Johnny Mathis and the Jackson Five.
While testing the clocks this week, Paul Tyson discovered several of them also needed new batteries.
