Rye Town's Carvin Begins Congressional Campaign

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - Lifelong Port Chester resident and current Rye Town Supervisor Joe Carvin formally announced his candidacy for the House of Represenatatives on Monday morning outside of Rye Town Hall alongside members of his family.

Carvin plans to challenge long-time Democrat Rep. Nita Lowey in the newly drawn 17th district , which encompasses the northwestern portion of Westchester County and all of Rockland County.

"Our country is facing serious and profound challenges," Carvin said. "It is incumbent on us as responsible citizens to challenge the status quo that puts the nation at perilous risk at a time of great uncertainty."

Carvin's candidacy had been speculated about and he confirmed it last Wednesday when former Congressional candidate Mark Rosen announced he would be stepping out of the race due to redistricting . Carvin considered running for U.S. Senate earlier this month, but dropped out of the race after other Republican candidates emerged.

In his address, Carvin thanked Lowey for her 24 years of service, but strongly advocated for a change in representation.

"Our challenges today are not ideological they are mathematical," Carvin said. "The career politicians continue to pretend it's business as usual just to get through the next election. That is dishonest and irresponsible. Kicking the can down the road is kicking our children's futures off a cliff."

Carvin, who was endorsed by Rosen last week, has also earned the endorsement of former Republican Congressional candidate Anthony Mele, who announced he would be stepping down over the weekend.
