RYE BROOK, N.Y. -- Rye Brook residents will not have to pay building fees related to clean-up from Hurricane Sandy.
The Village Board of Trustees approved a resolution waiving all building permit fees, certification of occupancy fees, demolition permit fees, electrical permit fees, plumbing permit fees and fence and wall permit fees. The fees were waived because so many residents were affected by the storm and the village was looking to defray costs associated with the cleanup and restoration, according to the resolution.
Applicants will have to submit a sworn affidavit detailing the work that is being performed and verifying that it is a result of Hurricane Sandy. Applications need to be submitted on or before Oct. 31, 2013, the one-year anniversary of the storm. Any work being performed that is not a direct result of Hurricane Sandy will still be subject to fees.
Any residents who paid fees prior to the adoption of the resolution will receive a refund. For more information, contact the Building Department at 914-939-0668.
