RYE BROOK, N.Y. - Rye Brook Mayor Joan Feinstein took a few minutes during Tuesday's Board of Trustees meeting to commend letter carrier Jason Dang for his efforts during last week's fire on Rock Ridge Road . According to Rye Brook Police, Dang aided elderly residents Gus and Judy Uhry in escaping the home despite hazardous conditions.
"We would like to applaud the letter carrier Jason Dang," Mayor Feinstein said. "He was instrumental in helping the couple get out safely and securely. The gentleman took it upon himself to enter the home despite heavy smoke."
Feinstein added that Dang, who was not present, was invited to the meeting but could not attend. The mayor also plans on visiting the post office to deliver a proclamation to Dang in the near future.
In addition to applauding Dang, the board held a public hearing regarding parking on Sunset Road and approved other minor resolutions.
The hearing on Sunset Road was quickly closed after comment from resident Lisa Arnett and approved 5-0. The resolution shifts the eligible parking zones on the hill to "increase sight lines".
The board also awarded two contracts for selected street tree pruning and traffic signal and light maintenance services to Central Tree and Schmidt and O'Brien. Both contracts were unanimously awarded.
The board also unanimously reappointed Joseph P. Ricci to the post of Village Risk Manager.
