RYE BROOK, N.Y. -- When Rye Brook resident and London native Sandra Dennis started making fine, handcrafted jewelry in 2007, she hardly thought that one day her pet project could turn into a business.
"The company was born out of personal inspiration," Dennis said. "I didn't like the jewelry that was around. I couldn't find the quality I wanted at the price point I could afford so I started doing things for myself."
Dennis, who moved to Rye Brook with her husband in 2001, started creating her own handcrafted fine jewelry in 2007 solely for personal use. It wasn't until a few years later that she decided to go commercial.
"It was a natural progression to take my hobby and passion and turn it into a business," Dennis said. "Once people started buying I got a lot of repeat customers, because of the quality of the jewelry and the reasonable prices. Youre getting sterling silver, 14K gold, youre getting the real deal, so people come back to me.
Dennis' company, Chez Dennis , got its vending start at craft fairs and trade fairs, but she is excited about being featured in Saturday's first installment of the Rye Brook Indoor Farmers Market.
"Im excited, Im really looking forward to it," Dennis said. "This is on my doorstep, so I'm all in to support the community and if it gets me out there thats great also."
