Rosen Drops Challenge of Lowey, Supports Carvin

LARCHMONT, N.Y. - Larchmont resident Mark Rosen withdrew from the race for Congress Wednesday morning but said he formally endorsed Rye Town Supervisor Joe Carvin to defeat Rep. Nita Lowey (D-Harrison) in November.

Rosen, a Larchmont resident and an Afghanistan veteran, was forced to withdraw after a panel of Federal judges redrew the district lines, placing him out of contention for Lowey's seat. He announced his withdrawal at a press conference with Carvin in front of Murray Avenue school in Larchmont.

"I am no longer living in the district that Nita Lowey is currently living," Rosen said. "I thought about the campaign with Ms. Lowey, and so it was with great regret that I need to withdraw from the race. This is my home and I'm not moving."

Carvin, a lifelong resident of Port Chester, announced his candidacy for U.S. Senate in early March only to withdraw a few weeks later after the field thickened. Carvin will now run in the newly formed 17th District, which runs as far north as Peekskill and as far west as Ramapo.

"Ms. Lowey is incredibly beatable," Rosen said. "We are fortunate to have a wonderful candidate to step up. So it is with great pride that I endorse Joe Carvin."

Carvin showed his support for Rosen and said that he will make a formal announcement regarding the race sometime next week.

"There's no doubt in my mind Mark would have won the seat for the 17th District," Carvin said. "I'm very honored and humble to have Mark's endorsement."

Rosen said he considered running against another candidate in the new 16th District, which stretches as far south as the Bronx, but ultimately decided not to.

"We did consider it, but it's a different district," Rosen said. "I haven't thought about it, I haven't prepared for it, it's a different community and it's a harder hill to climb."
