Port Chester - Rye Brook Rotary Makes a Difference

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - John Conyers and his fellow members of the Port Chester - Rye Brook Rotary are looking to make a big difference in the lives of many within the local community.

By partnering with Save Our Society, Conyers and Rotary President John Kiyak are helping some local citizens receive second chances and trying to make the community a better place.

Conyers, who is also the program director for S.O.S., said the organization helps people who have been in jail. He described it as “Westchester County’s only holistic re-entry program for the formerly incarcerated.” He said the program gives a "hand up, not a hand out.”

The Rotary Club sponsors S.O.S.’s mentorship program, which graduates its first class on Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. at Summerfield Methodist Church. The Rotary Club also sponsored Save Our Society’s Make a Difference day on Saturday, Oct. 22at Summerfield Methodist Church in Port Chester.

During the event, Conyers said volunteers painted four rooms inside Summerfield Methodist in addition to fully renovating one outdated bathroom. He expressed appreciation for employees of the Rye Town Hilton Hotel, who volunteered their time to the project.
