Port Chester Native to Perform at Crawford Park

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - The Port Chester Council for the Arts has announced that Port Chester native and Broadway soprano Michelle Serrano Moeritz will be performing at Crawford Park on Sunday, Feb. 12 as part of the PCCFA's 30th Anniversary Concert Series.

According to the PCCFA, Moeritz, who began her career in musical theatre, has performed in the Broadway tours of “Man of La Mancha,” “South Pacific,” “Carousel” and “Show Boat” and as Eliza Doolittle in an off-Broadway production of “My Fair Lady.”

Although Moeritz experienced success, she ultimately wanted to pursue a career in opera. After she received her master's degree in Vocal and Opera studies from SUNY Purchase, Moeritz went on to place first in the Regional Metropolitan Opera National Council Competition.

Aside from her professional exploits, Moeritz is also a resident artist with Port Chester's Literacy through the Arts program.

The program, which employs 15 to 20 professional artists, is a partnership between the PCCFA and the school district. According to PCCFA Board President Anne Brady, the program is committed to encouraging a child's natural enthusiasm for the arts, to enhance language skills through artist interaction, and to introduce children to a variety of artists, worldviews and cultures.

The concert starts at 3 p.m. and tickets will cost $20.
