Port Chester MS Drama Club 'Beautifies' Auditorium Lobby

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – The Port Chester Middle School Drama Club's "Sponsor a Record" campaign aims to both "beautify" the lobby of Archie Jacobs Auditorium while simultaneously raising money for the club.

The club is imploring community members to donate vinyl record with "vintage jacket artwork of timeless Broadway shows" so that the club can frame and adorn the records along the lobby walls.

Ken Kraut, the school's music director, said the school has been searching for a more cohesive way to decorate the lobby when Isabel "Sissy" Sherlock donated more than 100 vinyl records to the school.

"After Mrs. Sherlock's generous donation, we realized how great it would be to decorate the halls with some of the old artwork," Kraut said.

Don't have any old records, but still want to help out? The club is also asking for individual sponsorships of the frames. Each sponsorship is $30, and it comes with the sponsor's name engraved on the frame. All the proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards updating some of the auditorium's outdated equipment.

"There have been quite a few advances in technology since this place was built in 1965," Kraut said with a laugh. The club plans to use the funds to put in a new sound board and upgrade to an LED stage lighting system.

Kraut hopes to have the lobby decorated in time for the school’s holiday concert, but suggested that a more realistic date might be the end of May. The closing date for donations and sponsorships is Dec. 15.
