PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Norma Ventura smiled as her youngest son Eric reached up to pick up a pack of colored markers for school."He's really excited," said Ventura, who came to Staples Thursday with her two sons to go shopping for school supplies.
Ventura's oldest son Jesse, 14, will start eighth grade at Port Chester Middle School next Wednesday and Eric, 6, will also be starting first grade at Park Avenue School.
Ventura received supply lists from the schools weeks in advance but waited until the last week to go shopping. She worried that some of the items on the list might be out of stock, but her sons seemed to be able to get most of the things they needed.
"I hope we find everything," she said.
