Port Chester Medical Center Holds Health Fair

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Peekskill resident Nicolas Karafantis says Open Doors Family Medical Centers is an invaluable resource that provides him with healthcare services he may otherwise not be able to afford. "It's very important to me," said Karafantis, 60, who was picking up a prescription Friday from the Open Doors site in Port Chester, though he usually gets care at the Ossining site. "It's life and death."

Karafantis receives Medicare and Medicaid insurance, which covers him for nearly all his costs at Open Doors Family Medical Centers. Not all individuals or families qualify for these health insurance programs or have private insurance, but Open Doors wants people to know that they can still get affordable healthcare at its centers.

Open Doors will be hosting the fifth annual Port Chester Health Fair Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its site on Grace Church Street. There, it will be providing free health screenings, outdoor activities for children and adults and general information about getting healthcare.

"It's really about maintaining a healthy Port Chester," said Grace Beltran, spokesperson for Open Doors. "We provide quality healthcare in a very accessible way to everybody."

The event is free and open to all. For more information call Grace Beltran at (914) 502- 1339.
