PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - The 53-year-old Port Chester man accused of fatally stabbing another village resident on Poningo Street earlier this month was arraigned Monday morning in Village Court.
Julio Cortez was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the stabbing of Carlos Guiaracocha, 23, around 4 a.m. on Feb. 7. According to police, Cortez and Guiaracocha were familiar with one another and alcohol played a role in the incident.
Port Chester Judge Peter Sisca remanded the case to Westchester County Court for a date that has yet to be determined.
District Attorney Prosecutor Christina Dushaj said the DA's office has recovered video surveillance of the incident from a nearby security camera and that the DVD was made available to the defendant's attorney, who said he was unable to view the footage citing a technical malfunction. Dushaj countered by saying she offered the attorney an opportunity to view the DVD at the DA's office on Thursday and did not receive a response.
