Port Chester Girl Spends Weekend With Grandpa

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Julio Ramos enjoyed a sunny Friday afternoon watching his granddaughter Julissa run about the playground at Lyon Park.

"I like to come here," said Ramos, who lived in Port Chester for 20 years but now lives in Greenwich. "It's my favorite place."

Ramos got to spend some extra time with his granddaughter since she had Thursday and Friday off school for the Rosh Hashanah holiday.

"I take care of her every time she's off school--afternoons, weekends, holidays," Ramos said.

Julissa is seven years old and goes to Park Avenue School. Ramos likes to watch her dance and draw pictures, and always keeps her favorite fruit, strawberries and blueberries, in the refrigerator for when she comes over.

“She’s very smart and very creative,” he said.

Ramos added that he didn't have enough time to spend with his own children when they were growing up because he had two work two jobs to provide for them.

"Now I have time to spend with my granddaughter," he said. "Every minute I get, I want to spend with her."
