PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Port Chester's Sky View Ventures will receive $250,000 from the state to install 20 electric-vehicle-charging stations at 10 hotels around the state, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced.

The project is one of several under the Charge NY initiative, spearheaded by the New York Power Authority and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. The NYSERDA has awarded $3.6 million to 14 organizations to install 260 charging stations across the state. The NYPA will also install 100 charging stations in public and private lots, primarily in the Metropolitan New York City area.

“Building this network of innovative charging stations will encourage New Yorkers to use fuel-efficient alternatives like electric vehicles as well as grow the green industry and jobs in the state,” Cuomo said. “The Charge NY program shows how New York is leading the way toward an electric vehicle future, and it is helping to drive the state’s clean energy economy.”

Cuomo has proposed spending $50 million over the next five years for more charging stations. He revealed in his state of the state address earlier this year that his plan is to have 3,000 public charging stations installed and 40,000 plug-in vehicles on the road.
