Outages From Hurricane Sandy Hit 6,000-Plus In Port Chester

UPDATE, 9:40 p.m.: There are 3,552 customers without power in Rye City, 1,993 in Rye Brook and 6,188 in Port Chester, according to the Con Edison outage map.

UPDATE, 8 p.m.: There are 2,617 customers without power in Rye City, 1,051 in Rye Brook and 3,519 in Port Chester, according to the Con Edison outage map.

UPDATE, 6:50 p.m.: RYE, N.Y. ? Roughly 2,000 residents in Rye, Rye Brook and Port Chester are without power as of 6:50 p.m. on Monday.

The majority of outages are the areas along Boston Post Road and the Long Island Sound.

UPDATE, 4:30 p.m. : RYE, N.Y. ? More than 800 Rye residents were without power as of 4:30 p.m. Monday as Hurricane Sandy pummeled the area.

Outages were reported all over the city from downed wires. The estimated restoration time for most areas was 10 p.m. Monday.

UPDATE, 3 p.m.: RYE BROOK, N.Y. ? Power has been restored to some 800 residents in Rye Brook who were affected by wires and poles downed by Hurricane Sandy, ConEdison reported.

Major outages in Rye Brook have been repaired, but small clusters have popped up throughout the village and in Port Chester. In the area of North Main Street in Port Chester, where officials ordered evacuations earlier in the afternoon, about 40 ConEdison customers were without power due to burning wires, according to the company.

Several more outages were reported for residents near the Long Island Sound in Rye as of 3 p.m. Monday. Power was knocked out for about 200 residents on Midland Avenue and nearly 100 residents were without power in the Oakland Beach and Peningo Neck area of Rye.

ORIGINAL STORY, 12 p.m .: RYE BROOK, N.Y. – Several hundred homes were without power in Rye, Rye Brook and Port Chester Monday afternoon due to downed wires and poles from Hurricane Sandy's high winds, Con Edison reported.

Nearly 650 were without power in Rye Brook in the area between North Ridge Street, Westchester Avenue and North Regent Street due to pole damage, according to the power company.

In addition, more than 110 ConEdison customers near Ridge Street and St. Mary’s Cemetery on the border of Rye and Rye Brook were without power  due to an “area outage,” Con Edison reported.

Closer to the Sound, 50 people living in the Peningo Neck and Oakland Beach area of Rye were without power as of noon due to downed wires.

Power is expected to be restored in all of the affected areas between 5 and 6 p.m. Monday, according to the power company’s outage map.
